Bean & Cheese Pupusas

1. Get your ingredients

  • 1½C (8 oz) masa harina (pre-treated corn flour for tortillas)
    See below for the brands I like.

  • 1T neutral oil, plus more for cooking

  • salt

  • 1 15-oz can black beans

  • 1C shredded cheese (could be mozzarella, jack, or any sort of plant-based cheese)

This is my favorite plant-based melting cheese at the moment

2. Gather your equipment

  • large bowl for making dough

  • medium bowl for filling

  • small bowl for scraps

  • measuring cups

  • measuring spoons

  • 10” or 12” nonstick or stainless skillet

  • flat, rigid spatula

  • clean kitchen towel

  • 2 dinner plates
